A Mercier & Fils automatic watch winder is not an accessory to be hidden away in a drawer. It is an exceptional piece of furniture, designed to display a moving collection with the same demanding standards as your timepieces. Carbon fiber, glossy ebony, Macassar, full-grain leather: each finish is chosen to integrate seamlessly into a dressing room, an office, or a library, without ever betraying its technical function.
From Mazarin II, designed for a nascent collection, to Rivoli XXIV, crafted for twenty-four watches, each Mercier & Fils winder combines individual TPD programming per slot, multi-directional rotation, and silent operation. This is the very definition of a luxury automatic watch winder: the mechanical precision of an instrument, the presence of a piece of furniture.
MAZARIN
RIVOLI
A luxury watch winder for your automatic watch collection
A high-end watch winder should be as enjoyable to use as it is to display. The Mazarin and Rivoli ranges combine a considered presentation with independently adjustable winding positions. Finishes, dimensions and easy access matter just as much as the number of modules.
Which capacity should you choose: 2, 6, 12 or 24 watches?
An automatic watch winder helps keep watches running when they are not worn every day. To choose a Mazarin or Rivoli model, consider how many watches you want to wind, the settings required by their movements and the space available. This selection focuses on four capacities: 2, 6, 12 and 24 winding positions.
2-watch winders: alternate between two automatic watches
A double watch winder suits two watches worn in rotation or a small collection. Check the cabinet dimensions and whether the holders fit your bracelets. Two winding positions do not necessarily require the same settings: each movement needs an appropriate programme.
Compare models: Mazarin II / Rivoli II.
6-watch winders: bring your regular selection together
Six positions accommodate several automatic watches worn in rotation. This capacity can also leave room for a planned purchase without requiring a large cabinet. Compare the dimensions, access to the watches and finishes of both ranges.
Compare models: Mazarin VI / Rivoli VI.
12-watch winders: organise an extended collection
Twelve positions suit a larger collection when several watches need to remain set. Count only the pieces you intend to wind: quartz and manually wound watches do not need a rotating module. Allow comfortable access to every position.
Compare models: Mazarin XII / Rivoli XII.
24-watch winders: centralise a large collection
A twenty-four-position model brings many automatic watches together in one cabinet. Measure the intended location and delivery route, then check the model’s dimensions. The total number of watches you own does not, on its own, determine how many winding positions you need.
Compare models: Mazarin XXIV / Rivoli XXIV.
Mazarin or Rivoli: what should you compare?
Both ranges offer these four capacities. Mazarin features piano-black lacquer and ebony, with a Macassar finish specified for the II model. Rivoli combines zebrano, piano-black lacquer and a glazed front. When choosing a wooden watch winder for your interior, compare each reference’s exact finish and dimensions: two models with the same capacity may have different footprints.
Rivoli models include a biometric fingerprint lock. This provides convenient opening and access control, rather than the protection of a certified safe. Compare presentation, locking systems and budget while keeping your watches’ requirements at the centre of the decision.
Which watch winder should you choose for your watch brand and calibre?
Choose a luxury watch winder around the movement and bracelet first, then the space your collection needs. Independently adjustable positions in the Mazarin and Rivoli ranges let you accommodate different calibres in one cabinet. Identify each watch reference before selecting its turns per day and winding direction.
Watch winders for Rolex: consider the movement and how often you wear it
For an automatic Rolex worn in rotation, a winder offers the convenience of finding the watch ready to wear after several days off the wrist. A Submariner, Daytona and Sky-Dweller do not share one movement: do not apply a setting solely because the watch is a Rolex. Also check that the closed bracelet fits securely on the holder. For two automatic watches worn alternately, start by comparing Mazarin II and Rivoli II; for a larger collection, count the winding positions you will actually use. Consult the TPD settings for Rolex calibres.
Watch winders for Patek Philippe: convenience for automatic calendar watches
Keeping an automatic Patek Philippe calendar watch running can save a lengthy date-setting procedure between wears. However, the Nautilus and Aquanaut collections include different references: the collection name alone does not establish compatibility. Check the calibre, the manufacturer's instructions and how the bracelet fits on the holder. A rotating module will not wind a manually wound watch. Choose an individually adjustable position and use our Patek Philippe TPD guide to look up the movement.
Watch winders for Audemars Piguet: check the Royal Oak generation
Two Royal Oak watches can require different checks depending on their generation and calibre. The Royal Oak “Jumbo” and three-hand automatic models should not be treated as one reference. Before choosing an Audemars Piguet watch winder, identify the exact watch, check that its bracelet sits securely on the cushion and allow for a separate programme for each movement. In a collection spanning several manufacturers, independent settings are more useful than one programme per brand. See our Audemars Piguet calibre settings.
Watch winders for Omega: distinguish automatic from manual winding
With Omega, begin by identifying the movement type. An automatic Aqua Terra can benefit from a winder when worn in rotation; a Speedmaster Moonwatch with calibre 3861 is manually wound and will not be wound by the module's rotation. The Speedmaster name alone is not enough to decide. Count only your automatic watches when choosing the cabinet capacity, then check their programmes in our Omega settings guide.
Watch winders for Vacheron Constantin: match the holder and settings to the watch
For an automatic Vacheron Constantin, start with the exact reference and how often you wear it. A three-hand Overseas and an Overseas perpetual calendar involve different resetting procedures: keeping an automatic complication running can avoid having to reset several displays after it stops. Choose a holder that fits the bracelet or strap currently fitted, with a module you can programme independently of the other watches. Have the turns per day and winding direction confirmed for the specific calibre; the Vacheron Constantin name does not define a universal programme. Rotation will not wind a manually wound watch.
These brands are mentioned to help you choose and set a winder. Mercier & Fils is not affiliated with these manufacturers.
Turns per day and direction: settings for each movement
Turns per day (TPD) and winding direction depend on the movement inside each watch. A general recommendation for a brand does not replace checking the calibre and its exceptions. Consult our watch winder TPD guide before programming the positions. If uncertain, ask for advice rather than applying a universal setting.
Quiet watch winders: compare documented measurements
The Rivoli 12 reference test reports 20.1 dBA with one module and 23.4 dBA with twelve active modules, measured at 11.8 in (30 cm) against an initial background level of 18.6 dBA. These results relate to that model and test protocol, not to individual measurements of every configuration. Read our acoustic testing conditions, especially when considering a location near a sleeping area.
Questions before buying
Does every automatic watch need a winder?
A winder is primarily a convenience when several watches are worn in rotation or their settings take time to restore. It does not replace watch servicing or the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Should I choose more positions than I currently need?
Some spare capacity can be useful if you plan to expand your collection. It is not essential: choose according to actual use and available space, rather than trying to fill every module.
Watch winder or watch winder safe?
A watch winder displays watches and keeps them running. If you also need protection against theft, explore our watch winder safes and check the security level of the specific configuration.
