Precision for your watch. Protection for your collection.
Founded by Bastien Jaffré, Mercier & Fils is a French house specializing in watch winders and watch safes. From two watches in a Mazarin or Rivoli to sixty slots in a Régent, we give every collection a solution to match.
Our headquarters are in Paris. After-sales service, quality checks and minor repairs are handled in France.
"A watch doesn't stop on its own. It stops when you stop taking care of it."
The founding moment
It was a Sunday in November, somewhere between Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and the Palais-Royal. Bastien Jaffré had just acquired his third automatic watch - a manufactured piece, complex caliber, 72-hour power reserve. He had invested in a so-called "high-end" winder, the one all the forums recommended, the one with the beautiful wooden box and the two-year warranty.
Monday morning, the watch had stopped.
No breakdown. No defect. Just a winder turning at 1,800 TPD on a caliber that only required 650. The oscillating weight had been unnecessarily stressed against its stops all night. Bastien had placed the watch on his desk, watched the winder continue to turn idly - and understood that something was fundamentally wrong with this market.
It wasn't a romantic revelation. It was an engineer's frustration.
He spent the next six months disassembling, measuring, comparing. Every available winder, from the most confidential to the best-selling, suffered from the same problem: fixed rotation programs, disconnected from the actual needs of the calibers. The market had confused the decorative object with the precision instrument. Mercier & Fils was born from this confusion - to correct it.
Bastien Jaffré - The Founder
Bastien Jaffré is not a watchmaker by academic training in the traditional sense. He is something rarer in this sector: a precision technician obsessed with the mechanics of movements, who built his knowledge from the inside out.
A Background Rooted in Precision Mechanics
Before Mercier & Fils, Bastien worked for several years in the engineering of high-stress mechanical systems – a field where a tolerance of a tenth of a millimeter is not a selling point, it's a condition of operation. This is where he developed his method: start with the component, understand its real constraints, then design the system that respects it.
Applied to watchmaking, this method provides a different interpretation of the watch winder. Bastien doesn't start with the case or aesthetics. He starts with the movement – its oscillating weight, its direction of rotation, its power reserve, its optimal TPD – and works his way up to the finished product.

Its winder view
For Bastien, a precision watch winder is an active maintenance instrument. Its settings deserve as much care as the choice of the watch it holds.
This conviction takes shape in three technologies: Coil Winding® for winding, Flex Mount® for support and BioLock® for access on equipped models. It also takes shape in measurements: 646.7 turns/day against a 650 TPD setting over seven days, a −0.51% deviation, during our Rivoli 12 test.
Bastien answers technical questions by email and phone. Advice accompanies product selection, configuration and everyday use.
What "Son" means
The name Mercier & Fils is not a positioning artifice. It conveys a precise idea.
Transmission as a Philosophy
In the French artisanal tradition, "& Fils" signifies the continuity of expertise. It's not a dynastic promise – Bastien didn't found a century-old family business. It's a promise of transmission: that of a precise gesture, technical rigor, and a way of working that doesn't dilute with time.
At Mercier & Fils, this transmission takes a concrete form. Each product is designed to last, not to be replaced. Every adjustment is documented, every caliber referenced, every intervention traceable. When a client entrusts us with their collection, they are not entrusting us with watches. They are entrusting us with objects that have a history, sometimes an irreplaceable sentimental value. The "Fils" reminds us that we are aware of this.
Craftsmanship, Not Industry
Mercier & Fils does not mass produce. Each unit undergoes quality control in France – sound level, rotation precision, mechanical behavior – before being shipped. This is not a marketing argument. It is a constraint we impose on ourselves because we know what happens when it's absent: a stopped watch, on a Monday morning, on a Parisian desk.
Durability as a Commitment
A Mercier & Fils watch winder is designed to last through several collections. Not to accompany a single watch for two years, then be replaced by the next model. Coil Winding™, Flex Mount™, and BioLock™ technologies are developed in-house precisely to guarantee this durability – without reliance on third-party components, without planned obsolescence.
The "Fils" means we build for what comes next.

The founder
Bastien Jaffré created Mercier & Fils with a simple belief: a watch winder is not a gadget that just spins a watch. It is a precision instrument that must respect the caliber it houses.
Passionate about watchmaking, he identified a gaping hole in the watch winder market. The majority of available models, including the most renowned, operate with fixed or stepped rotation programs, disconnected from the actual needs of the calibers they are supposed to maintain. A Rolex Submariner requires approximately 650 turns per day. Entry-level models turn at 1,600 or even 1,900 TPD, with no possibility of adjustment. This is not a technical detail: it is the difference between a winder that maintains your watch and a winder that stresses it unnecessarily.
From this observation, Mercier & Fils was born. Not to add yet another watch winder to the market. But to create a French alternative that takes adjustment seriously.
Why Mercier & Fils exists
Your Rolex 3235 at 650 TPD / BOTH. Your Patek Philippe 26-330 S C at 800 TPD / CCW. Your Audemars Piguet 2385 at 800 TPD / CW. Three calibers, three programs: one Mercier winder can apply these settings independently.
These examples come from our TPD guide. Our database covers over 5,800 watch references, 86 brands and more than 200 caliber and variant designations. Our specialty: start with the movement to select its program, then match capacity and protection to your collection.

Our Technologies
Mercier & Fils develops proprietary technologies that define our products:

Coil Winding™
Precision you can measure. On our Rivoli 12: −0.51% average deviation at 650 TPD over seven days; 20.1 dBA with one module and 23.4 dBA with twelve modules, at 30 cm; +1.3 µT field variation at the watch position.

Flex Mount™
Our watch fastening system. Its telescopic cushion adjusts to all strap sizes, without additional accessories. Its extended dimension accommodates cases up to 55 mm. The mounting is designed to absorb vibrations: rotation remains fluid, and vibration does not propagate to the case.

BioLock™
Our biometric access system for safes and watch winders. Fingerprint access, no keys or combinations to remember.
