Omega winder: TPD and direction of rotation settings by collection

Omega is one of the easiest watch manufacturers to set up on a winder, with mostly consistent logic across collections. The vast majority of Omega automatic movements operate at 650 TPD bidirectional. Exceptions mainly concern certain chronographs (800 TPD) and some older or special models that require right-hand winding only or higher TPD. Incorrect settings will not destroy your watch, but will significantly reduce winding efficiency in the long term.

This Mercier & Fils guide lists all Omega collections with their exact specifications, based on manufacturer technical data.

Seamaster — The Best-Selling Collection

The Seamaster represents the largest portion of Omega watches in circulation. The basic rule is simple: 650 TPD bidirectional for almost all 300m, Aqua Terra, Planet Ocean, and Professional variants. Notable exceptions are the Seamaster Diver Chronograph (800 TPD, right-hand) and some America's Cup / Apnea variants that switch to right-hand at 700 or 800 TPD. The Planet Ocean Master Chronometer switches to 700 TPD BOTH.

Speedmaster — Known Exceptions

The Speedmaster is the Omega collection with the most setting variations. The Speedmaster Professional (manual winding) is not covered by this guide — only automatic versions are used with a winder. Speedmasters equipped with calibers 9300, 9904 and other recent Co-Axial movements operate at 700 TPD bidirectional. Older Speedmaster chronographs (cal. 3513, 3613, 3813) require 800 TPD in right-hand direction only. The Moonwatch Co-Axial switches to 700 TPD BOTH.

Constellation

The Omega Constellation collection is very consistent: almost all references operate at 650 TPD bi-directional. The Globemaster (including Annual Calendar) is the main exception at 700 TPD BOTH. Some Double Eagle or Chronometer models with specific suffixes switch to right-hand direction at 700 or 800 TPD – check the exact reference if you own an older model.

The De Ville collection is predominantly 650 TPD bi-directional. Exceptions are concentrated in chronograph versions (De Ville Co Axial Chrono, Rattrapante, Co Axial Chronoscope) which switch to right-hand direction at 700 or 800 TPD depending on the caliber. The standard automatic De Ville Prestige remains at 650 BOTH in its most common variants.

Other Collections

Some Omega models do not fall into the main collections listed above. The Ladymatic, Skeleton, Tourbillon, and Museum pieces largely remain at 650 TPD bi-directional. The Aquarella is a notable exception: right direction only at 650 TPD.

FAQ

What TPD for an Omega Seamaster?

The vast majority of Seamasters operate at 650 TPD bi-directional — whether it's the 300m, the Aqua Terra, the standard Planet Ocean, or the Professional. Exceptions include the Seamaster Diver Chronograph and the Apnea 2595/2895 variants (800 TPD, right direction), as well as the Planet Ocean Master Chronometer and models with calibre 9300 which go up to 700 TPD BOTH. If you own a Seamaster Americas Cup, opt for a right direction at 700 TPD.

What winding direction for an Omega Speedmaster?

The Speedmaster collection has the most variations. Models equipped with recent Co-Axial calibres (9300, 9904, 9920) operate at 700 TPD bi-directional. Older automatic chronographs (cal. 3513, 3613, 3813) and Split Seconds versions require a right direction only at 800 TPD. Speedmaster Reduced and some Mark versions are at 650 TPD BOTH. Identify your calibre before making any adjustments.

What setting for an Omega Constellation?

The Constellation is the easiest collection to configure: 650 TPD bi-directional in almost all cases. The main exception is the Globemaster, which uses 700 TPD BOTH. Some Double Eagle Chronograph models switch to right direction at 700 TPD, and the Chronometer 2342 Titan requires 800 TPD right.

What TPD for an Omega De Ville?

The De Ville Prestige automatic and standard Co-Axial versions are at 650 TPD bi-directional. Chronographs (Co Axial Chronoscope, X2 Chrono) switch to right direction at 700 TPD. The Rattrapante version requires a right direction at 800 TPD. The De Ville Prestige 4690 and its ladies' variants are in the right direction but remain at 650 TPD.

What is the general rule for an Omega watch winder?

Omega is one of the most consistent manufacturers: if you don't know your specific model, set your watch winder to 650 TPD bi-directional. This setting is correct for the majority of Omega watches in circulation. Only automatic chronographs with a right direction and recent Co-Axial calibres (9300 and derivatives) require a different configuration.
